The Friends of the NLM Awards Gala will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, DC. Registration is open to all and will be available soon.

“With this award we are honored and delighted to recognize Dr. Topol’s unique and comprehensive accomplishments as a physician, scientist, author, and editor in the context of his excellence as a communicator among biomedical researchers, clinicians and the public,” said Glen P. Eric Topol is the Executive Vice-President of Scripps Research, the largest non-profit biomedical research in the United States, where he was the founder and directs the Scripps Research Translational Institute and is a Professor of Molecular Medicine. He has published over 1,300 peer-reviewed articles, with more than 340,000 citations, elected to the National Academy of Medicine, and is one of the top 10 most cited researchers in medicine. His research is dedicated to promoting human health using genomic, digital and A.I. He authored three bestseller books on the future of medicine: The Creative Destruction of Medicine, The Patient Will See You Now, and Deep Medicine: How Artificial Intelligence Can Make Healthcare Human Again. Topol is the principal investigator to two large NIH grants, the All of Us Research Program that supports precision medicine and a Clinical and Translational Science (CTSA) Award that promotes innovation in medicine. He was the founder of a new medical school at Cleveland Clinic (Lerner College of Medicine), was commissioned by the UK to lead a review of their National Health Service and is active clinically as a cardiologist. At Substack, he publishes Ground Truths, a weekly newsletter and podcast on cutting edge biomedical advances.

The Friends of the NLM’s Annual Awards recognize scientific and medical leaders who have made significant contributions to health care, biomedical science, librarianship, and public health. These life changing awardees are our contemporaries and the Friends of the NLM has the honor of thanking them. Past recipients include Nobel Laureates, leading scientists who opened new fields of breakthrough discoveries, and developers of innovative technologies. In addition, outstanding health science librarians, leaders of public office, and those who have demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing medical and health science communication are among past and this year’s recipients.
